Whispering Cairn: Culmination

Episode 6: Nov 29, 2007

After Filge's defeat, he is more then happy to divulge any information about the dealings between himself and Balabar Smenk towards tthe underground operations of the Ebon Triad beneath the Dourstone mine. The party makes their way out of the observatory, well most of them, as the rogue and his mage accomplice decide to 5 finger discount as much as possible. Unbeknownst to them, the town militia has been sent to investigate the louds battle sounds that came from the roof of the observatory for all those in the vicinity to witness and hear. The party was given a letter, sent by Balabar Smenk, reauesting their audience in a couple of days. The militia quickly took hold of Filge as prisoner promising to keep him under lock and key for further investigational purposes. They then set about staking out the premises and installing patrol troops and guards in order to placated the curious and deter and wrongdoers. The rogue and mage were quickly spotted and told to, in not so much choice terms, to get out and never be seen there again.

The party quickly reformed at Allustan's abode and told him of their deeds within the observatory. They gave the missing child to him and her parents were quickly sent a message telling them to come over. They gave to Allustan a jar containing a liquid and a mysterious wormlike creature. He didint know what it was but would let the rest of his Seekers know. The party were made intitiates into the group in order to facilitate the passing and sharing of information and subsequent findings. Allustan emphasied the need to investigate further into the goings on within the Dourstone mines. He also informed them that Balabar Smenk has request their presence for a meeting in a couple of days time and that their owlbear had been stolen from the kennel.

The party then made their way to bury the Land family's bones, and set about getting their possessed comrade back from the clutches of the maniacal and torturess ghost Alastor. As they returned to Alastor's haunts, they spied the body of their elvish comrade lying on the catwalk and the disapparating body of Alastor bidding them thankyou and he clicked the locking mechanism for the stone door, which swung up and revealed the room beyond. A large circular room with a giant pillar of rushing air in the center connected to the outer wall catwalk by 2 intact and 2 broken causeways. There was a long and silent 60ft drop off the causeways into a bowel like pit. On each of the 4 walls facing the causeways, their was an ever moving fresco depicting the events leading and the ending the Battle of Pesh and the war between Chaos and Law. After studying these frescoes, the party split up and each took a causeway and stepped towards the rushing column of air and went from floor to ceiling. Suddenly, from within the column of air, 2 mighty doubled longsword carrying figures emerged. Obviously a deterrent to any ofrm of pilaging, they issued what could only be discerned as a warning to the party to leave. Unheeding this 'advice', the fighter retorted and the battle commenced.

Windwarriors dominate

Rogue flees and jumps into air column, mage falls, fighter falls

Windwarriors 1 falls to combined might of archer and cleric and last blow from fighter

Windwarrior 2 stalks mercilessly the archer and cleric finally succumbing, and not a moment to soon, to their combined attacks

REST Reemgerence of the valiant rogue REST REST

They hear the harrowing tale from the rogue and all, one by one, jump into the column of air. They are transported up into a room where they gaze upon the final resting place of Zosial, the wind duke. Within the tomb they discover a metal box transcribed upon it with moving runes of Queen of Chaos script, 2 devil horns, and a silver diadem

The party, licking its wounds, and realising that they almost didnt make it, go back to Allustan who opens the metal box and pulls out a device which he says can control spheres of annihilation. It is a longish handle with a loop at one end. He says that he will investigate what it and the other items are and get back to them.

The party after a couple of days rest, make their way to the home of one Balabar Smenk. He invites them inside and immediatly makes them a propsition. He was supplying the Ebon Triad with workers and materials within Dourstone mine, a rival mine owners establishment. He was trying to undermine their work in order to take over their business. Unfotunately, the Ebon Triad are proving more nuisance then attractiveness, and he tried to undercut their $$ and supplies. Tehy left him a warning a la Godfather of his former 1st lietenants head on a pike within his own personal quarters. He is scared of any more reprecussions so would like an independant contracting firm, you guys, to go ahead and clean up the mess within Dourstone mines. He will rpvide you with a backstory and cover so that you may freely move within the mine. Meet his new number 1 and the front gates at 2am in 2 days. To provide incentive for the party compliance, he shows them Khullen's and Filge's garrotted and shanked heads. He also shows them the owlbear and then proceeds to neatly slice off 1 of its front paw digits. "Do I make my meaning clear enough ?"

What will the party find in the mines?

Will they be able to save themselves from the manipulatinve clutched of the towns underbelly?
