Character Creation

Ability Scores

Create characters using the 32-point system. This means you have 32 points to assign to your abilities. Use the following table to determine the cost of various ability scores. You can not purchase higher than 18 to start a character, and you can not get extra points for choosing scores lower than 9.

Score Point Cost
9 1
10 2
11 3
12 4
13 5
14 6
15 8
16 10
17 13
18 16

Source Books

You may use any official Wizards of the Coast version 3.5 book which is not tied to a particular campaign, or is tied to the Faerun campaign. No Eberron sources please. You may use 3.0 editions of books but please ask me first!

Sanctioned books

  • Player's Handbook
  • Dungeon Master's Guide
  • Monster Manual
  • Monster Manual II
  • Monster Manual III
  • All other books require my prior approval

Character Details

Class

You can choose virtually any class from the sanctioned books.

You can not start a second prestige class before finishing the first prestige class to its highest level. You can multiclass the basic classes, however you are limited to two base classes maximum unless you have a specific prestige class that you desire (and get approved).

Death

Should you happen to perish, expire, bite it, etc... Dont take it out on the DM because it will have happened due to your own actions. You are responsible, not the DM. And more importantly, you can not come back as the same class !! Unless the party deem it ABSOLUTLEY necessary that you do. This will give people the chance to play more then 1 class.

Alignment

My only rule on alignment is that the character (and player!) must understand that this is a team adventure, and I will not tolerate inter-party or inter-player conflict. If your character concept will in any way impact the fun for any other player, you will soon be making a new character...

Race

You are free to choose any race, but any non-PHB race must first be vetoed by me for suitability. Also remember that you are located in a southerly climate, with a rainy season for winters. If your race is not suited to the environment, perhaps you should choose a more appropriate race.

Changing Your Character

I try to discourage character changing as a character built up from 1st to 20 lvl adds to the roleplay. that said, if you are truly dissatisfied with your character, then you can make a new one but at the same level as the lowest playing character of the party. Total XP will be discussed with the DM.

Action Points

At Start

You get 5 + 1/2 your character level

Special Cases

To stablize your character it will cost you 1 action point. To not die and effectively "cheat death" it will cost you 2, (maybe 3…) I will let you know final thought. If you use the action points to cheat death you are effectively out of the combat encounter; you cannot be healed until the combat is complete. ("Good grief, we thought you were dead!")

Initiative Rolls

We will be starting a 1 roll per encounter system. This will allow members to plan out their actions as they will know who they follow. This will change though with 'delaying' or 'readying' an action etc...

Player Turns

When it is your turn be prepared to act. Do not ask me if you can do certain things or attempt something. I will give nothing away. Try it and see. Thats how you get experience. Also try to keep table talk at a minimum. Asking others what you should do, or having others tell you what to do isnt realistic. If the party has some party-style combat tactics, these should be discussed out of game or prior to any combat situation.
